  • Alternative already eliminated The agency says it considered and eliminated the alternative the comment proposes, with a reason. Cannot be defeated from the comment text alone.
  • Already addressed The agency says its analysis already covers the point. Defeated when the comment cites the law itself: there is no analysis to cite against a statutory claim.

The comment

As a transplant from a big city, working for the Forest Service and doing my own hiking in the wilderness area of the Malheur NF, opened up my world rather than just reading about it. This opportunity provided me with a lifelong appreciation of the beauty we all seek in the natural world. I will join other citizens in protecting our rights for our children and grandchildren to enjoy those same experiences. Building more roads in these roadless areas does NOT guarantee less wildfires, but in fact, increases the potential for human caused catastrophes. As an employee for the Malheur NF in the 80’s, I observed countless clear cuts of slow growing lodgepole pine, that scarred the landscape and created erosion problems. The roadless rule brought a positive significant change to the administration of forest management. The Malheur NF is a jewel with its high elevation lakes, trail system and unspoiled wilderness areas in one of the few east to west mountain ranges in the US. I implore the federal government to continue holding these protections in place for generations to follow.
