RETAIN THE 2001 ROADLESS RULE Forest Service Personnel: I am in in support of retaining the 2001 Roadless Rule. I urge the Forest Service to adopt the “No Action” alternative. Of vital importance is that The Roadless Rule was developed through years of public participation and has wide-reaching public support — 99% of the public support the rule. At 64 I have been blessed to be able to trail, hunt and hike all over the Western Region my entire life – what a blessing to able to spend time in the last remaining roadless spaces on the entire planet! Here in WYO roadless areas provide some of best, and last, fish and wildlife habitat in the country. This includes core habitat for elk, mule deer, grizzly bear, and other iconic Wyoming species. (This morning in the South part of the Shoshone National Forest I even spotted beaver and a moose!) I just don’t get this, our national debt has hit 40 trillion dollars. The Forest Service is already $10 billion behind in deferred maintenance. How can removing Roadless Rule protections and adding roads not add to this massive maintenance back log? A cost analysis needs to be done prior to any rule change – especially a change as serious as this. The analysis and projected expenditures then need to be clearly and completely presented to all public land users and the taxpayers. The Roadless Rule protects some of our nation’s most important forests and wild places. I strongly oppose the rescission of the Roadless Rule and urge the U.S. Forest Service to adopt the “No Action” alternative. Respectfully
