“The overwhelming majority of the 343 million people in this country oppose the lift on this ban”
“Why should a few people make decisions for their sole benefit when millions of people disagree with this?”
The comment
I vehemently oppose this proposal to get rid of the Roadless Rule established for 25 years now. It protects untouched, virgin and old growth forest and ecosystems that harbor several imperiled, iconic, charismatic, and sensitive species already at risk of extinction. Moving forward with this would create irreversible damage to the ecosystem as well as fragmentation that would be the final nail in the coffin for these species. Keystone species such as Spotted Owls and Marbled Murrelet require large, unbroken stands of old growth forest just to survive. They cannot adapt to changes to their bare minimum requirements to survival. You cannot reverse damage on land that has had thousands of years to get to the point it has. Removing regulations designed to protect these incredible areas creates a dangerous precedent that no public land is worth protecting because corporate greed and revenue and political donor support are more important. Corporations are thriving businesses with these regulations in place. It is appalling that profit is being considered over the Crown Jewels of this country, the little remaining untouched places that remain. Regulations ensure that businesses are responsible stewards in the world. Lifting them leaves businesses and destruction to go unchecked. It is only when nothing is left to destroy that corporations and money hungry individuals and politicians would cease. We cannot allow this. The overwhelming majority of the 343 million people in this country oppose the lift on this ban. Why should a few people make decisions for their sole benefit when millions of people disagree with this? Business profit and personal gain should not get in the way of destroying our planet irreversibly.
