The Roadless Rule is integral to the health of our nation’s forests. Forest ecosystems cannot survive when fragmented; predator populations diminish, and prey begin to overrun the forests. Not only will this plan harm carbon sinks and animals protected by federal legislation, but it will also make communities, particularly in the West, more vulnerable to extreme wildfire events. Studies show that logged forests burn hotter and faster due to increased heat at the forest floor, the presence of leftover debris that acts as kindling, and the exposure to high winds from the lack of trees. If the administration cares about the health of our forests and communities, it will keep the Roadless Rule in place.
